Movies & Music on the Lawn Presents 'Kids Night' on August 26

Baton Rouge Gallery's popular summer film series, Movies & Music on the Lawn (presented by Whole Foods Market Baton Rouge), will once again pair up iconic silent films with the best local, contemporary bands in our area. Each band will perform a never-before-heard score, live, while the film is projected on a huge inflatable outdoor screen on the lawn behind the gallery.

The screenings, which take place inside BREC's beautiful and historic City Park, begin at 8 p.m. (or sundown – whichever comes last) and the $7 price of admission includes free bottomless popcorn.

This year's series once again offers a diverse slate of both films and bands, allowing you six distinct experiences that will blend the best silent films of all time with the best local music of this time. There will be slapstick comedies, a romance, a Hitchcock thriller, one of the very first and most enduring horror films and a unique "Kids Night" (which will offer multiple different short films that'll appeal to kids of all ages).

Musically, this year's series offers everything from a groove-powered soul machine to one of America's top sludge metal bands, from a chamber rock six-piece to an indie singer-songwriter duo. The series always works to offer you intriguing pairings of visuals and sounds and the breadth of this year's musicians will give audiences a truly unique look at both local music and silent-era classics.

Next Up: 'Kids Night' with the kids of B.R. Music Studios

Sponsored by Curbside Burgers

August 26 @ 8 p.m. / sundown

We’ve got an incredibly special night planned for you in August! Join us for the first-ever “Kids Night” at Movies & Music on the Lawn when we pair three incredible silent short films with three bands of local kids who will perform original scores for the films!

The films to be featured on Kids Night will include the 1956 classic “The Red Balloon;” one of the first-ever animated films, "Gertie the Dinosaur" (1914); and a beautifully colorful contemporary film from Spain titled “Alike” (2015). All told, the films will offer you and your family a film-and-sound experience unlike any other in the area with amazing films spanning 101 years!

Movies & Music on the Lawn typically pairs local bands with silent films and for Kids Night, we thought we’d turn things over to bands made up of local kids! We’re fortunate to have the kids of Baton Rouge Music Studios joining us for this special event.

Baton Rouge Music Studios is a multi-faceted academy of music education, performance coaching, and training in music technology, catering to aspiring musicians and music technology enthusiasts of all ages. The faculty and staff are committed to creating, implementing, and continually developing superior educational and performance based programs to Baton Rouge area youth and adults, and creating a meaningful community throughout the process.
