Baton Rouge Gallery Inc. (BRG) has been proud to partner with the Recreation and Park Commission of East Baton Rouge Parish (BREC) since signing a cooperative endeavor agreement with BREC in 1984. Upon entering into that agreement, the gallery found a home inside BREC's historic City Park and the two entities quickly went to work to turn what was originally built in 1927 as a pool house into a comfortable and inviting art gallery that would go on to showcase some of the biggest names in local art.

Award-winning member of the NRPA

BREC is an award-winning member of the NRPA (The National Recreation and Park Association) and has been nationally accredited and recognized as one of America's premier recreation and park departments. BREC maintains 184 parks that feature a wide variety of quality facilities with family-oriented leisure activities for all ages and population groups. It is one of the few parks and recreation agencies in the country to win the prestigious Gold Medal Award twice. BREC won this award, given for excellence in parks and recreation administration, in 1975 and 1991, having also been a national finalist for this award 12 other times. BREC is also one of a handful of agencies across the country that have been accredited.

About BREC

BREC was created by a State Legislative Act in 1946 as a separate and distinct body whose purpose is to develop, maintain and operate public park and recreational properties and facilities for all the people in East Baton Rouge Parish. BREC is a political subdivision of the State of Louisiana and does not operate under the City-Parish Government. Today, BRG remains a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (with its own strong Board of Directors) that partners with BREC to bring quality exhibitions and cultural programming to the residents of and visitors to the greater Baton Rouge area.

The partnership

With BREC offering numerous unique and incredibly cost-efficient art-related classes and workshops, the newly added annual event known as "Art in the Park" and more, BREC has shown a strong commitment to the arts in our area. Baton Rouge Gallery Inc. is forever thankful of their support and is proud to work with BREC to make the capital city area one that artists and art lovers alike can enjoy year-round.
